Moab

September 2021 Road trip with Minal

Day 4:

Monday Labor Day September 6th 2021 will be memorable.
We got ready early. By 6:30 am the kitchen staff was laying out all items of the continental breakfast in the large open area of the lobby. I was the first of the four to explore it. Tea and a toasted bagel with cream cheese was plentiful for me. The others were more resourceful and added scrambled eggs and home made green chutney to their bagel sandwich.

Our initial plan was to stay only one night in Moab before driving to Breckenridge Colorado. But all of us really loved the hotel and there were plenty of things to see and do in Moab. We  decided to extend the stay one more day. The hotel staff indicated there was vacancy and we could keep the same room. We could leave our stuff in the room when we left the hotel for the skydiving adventure.

I have written in details about the skydive experience in a recent post. Please refer to that.

We left the hotel at 7:30 am and at 8 am we showed up at the venue. I was in a T shirt and trousers when I got there, my nauwari strategically packed into my backpack. The long wait at the venue could have easily killed me had it not been for the anticipation of approval to don the nauwari for the skydive. By noon or so we were done.

Returning to the hotel we warmed the homemade paneer matar in the microwave and had it with pan warmed theplas and fresh mango pickle in our room.  Then drove to downtown Moab. Strolled on the streets, shopped for souvenirs and then indulged in local ice cream. My favorite in Utah or Montana is Huckleberry ice cream. These berries are similar to blueberries and grow in these northwestern states( Utah, Idaho, Montana, Washington). Even huckleberry jam or syrup is yummy on toast or crepes or pancakes.
The ice cream served as a dope😀. For the first time since leaving home we all succumbed to an afternoon siesta.

Fresh again, we got into the car, this time for an evening drive through the Arches National Park.
We drove past Balanced Rock, Courthouse Towers, the Windows section and Garden of Eden. The park has 1500 recognized arches in varying sizes. We hiked up the Delicate Arch Overlook trail. This was the fourth day in a row we had the luxury of watching a sunset over exotic panoramic landscapes ( first over HSB in Page Arizona, second over Monument Valley, third over Dead Horse Point). The sun dramatically lit up the magnificent arches and other stone structures in the park. The sky added color to the entire scene, magnifying the magic of the whole experience.

Everyone was willing for a second visit to Fiesta Mexicana ( the restaurant we ate at in Page). They had one in Moab too. And this one had extraordinarily colorful decor compared to the last one. It felt like an extension of our earlier sunset experience. The chairs, tables, walls, decorative articles everything was a piece of art. And the food certainly complimented the positive aura of the place. If that wasn’t enough, the Margarita served as the cherry on the cake.

We retired for the day with such a wonderful time behind us.
