Trip to Big Sur October 8-9,2021

The trip to Big Sur and Monterey Bay: October 8-9,2021

Day 2:

Saturday we were up early and headed down for breakfast in the lobby by 7:30 am. Bagels, waffles, boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, tea , coffee , fruit were plenty to last us till lunchtime.
We drove to the wharf again, this time to board a boat to go whale watching in the Bay. It was a lovely morning, sunny but cold. In the 2.5 hours ride we saw a lot of humpback whales besides several sea lions and marine birds. Saw the whales spurt the fountains of water as they swam and watched them take their deep dives from close quarters. It was a trip to remember.

Once out of the boat I couldn’t resist picking up more of the clam chowder to take home. We stopped at a Thai restaurant for lunch. From there it was time for Amita to drive back to San Francisco as she was working that evening.

We started our drive back home, this time on US highway 101. It passed through miles and miles of farmland. There was an area with several oil wells scattered around .As we approached Paso Robles Adwight suggested we check out some good wineries. I zeroed in on a couple on my phone. We took the exit and followed directions from Google maps. The road took us through a lot of hilly areas tucked far from the city. After wondering if we were lost we finally arrived at the winery. At the gate was a sign that read “ we are closed due to reaching full capacity. Unless you have a reservation we cannot accommodate you today”.

We still walked in and spoke to the manager. He offered us a reservation for next weekend for wine tasting. He directed us to the neighboring winery to check if they could squeeze us in today. No luck there too. But they had a restaurant and offered us a lunch reservation also for the following weekend.
We picked a couple of wines from their shop and headed home .

Back home by 6:30 pm we were refreshed for another week.  Indeed a short but sweet trip is was.
