Vidarbha: Part 13

When I was introduced to the Karvati sarees I was not aware that all Karvati sarees are not pure tussar . Some of them are a mix of tussar and munga . The munga is not to be confused with the prized muga silk from Assam . The munga used in the tussar hybrids from Vidarbha is an inferior material and typically a tussar munga saree costs approximately 2-3 k less than a pure tussar saree. It also does not have the golden cream sheen of pure tussar . Rather it appears a dull grey , often hard to appreciate when seen online .

My saree today was one such apparent mistake made . When it arrived I was disappointed to see it was not what I anticipated. Elegant but not meeting expectations. With much deliberation I decided to give it a facelift. And this time I was happy with the outcome. The Kasuti work brought the much needed perk to this otherwise drab fabric . Draped it today paired with a khun blouse in matching colors.
