Vidarbha:Part 17
This is a Vidarbha tussar with beautiful print of tiny Swastikas all over the body and a rather dramatically contrasting pallu . I bought it from Dastkar exhibition a few years back. It is from the collection of Baroda based designer Mala Sinha of Bodhi .
Accessorized with silver jhumkis and dholki beads necklace .
Here in the Western world it is considered taboo to display the swastika sign because it hurts Jewish sentiments since Hitler had adopted this motif for his army . What the Nazis used was however a mirror image of our Indian swastika but not many people here are educated enough about the difference as well as what it signifies in Indian / Hindu culture . My sister and daughter tried to discourage me from getting this saree so I don’t create political trouble . But I found the saree too pretty to resist . It is a symbol of auspiciousness and all things good .
