Vidarbha:Part 3

What does Nagpur have in common with California? Especially Central California where I live ? They both are large growers of oranges. While the oranges from these places are vastly different varieties from each other, I like both.

This time when I was in Nagpur the orange season was just beginning. I enjoyed the fruit, stopping to pick a few at every stop on my way out of the city to Kanha and back, and savored them right into the airport terminal before flying back to Mumbai.

Here in California too orange season is beginning. The Valencia varieties are ready whereas the navel oranges will be ready by March or so. Frost is always a threat to these trees. So a below freezing point forecast is never good news. Hoping for a frost free winter and happy harvest in the coming months.

Today’s saree is the another joth saree I picked in Nagpur. This one has fine checks on the body. The orange colored body is beautifully complimented by the deep pink borders. Broad bands of reddish pink mark the pallu. This one too unfortunately does not have the ikat band in the borders. Yet it remains lovable.
