Vidarbha:Part 4
Before I go to the tussars from Vidarbha I will share a couple of cottons that I couldn’t gather more information on, in terms of their name or weaver. Nevertheless these are very much Vidarbha made. I found these in a small shop owned by the local weaver’s cooperative in the busy market of Nagpur.
This first one just won my heart for its simplicity and old fashioned look. Dark green body marked with fine checks in black, complimented by black borders with three rows of rudraksh and flowers. A very simple pallu with horizontal black bands.
Does it remind you of a familiar weave ? Proximity to other weaver clusters does have an influence. This one mirrors a Maheshwari. It would not surprise me to find that this particular family of weavers had its roots near Maheshwar and migrated to Maharashtra at some point.
