Vidarbha:Part 5

One more non descript weave that I picked from that same weaver’s cooperative store in Nagpur was this cotton one in a purple shade. It has closely packed multicolored lines running  across the warp and turquoise lines across the weft creating fine checks and giving a variegated appearance. The pallu again has simple broad bands in purple and white. More likely this is woven on a jacquard loom.

The sales person showed me several color combinations in this design but this one had caught my eye from the outset. As I held it close to look in the mirror I noticed it had a large water stain on the mid part. My husband as well as the salesperson tried to dissuade me from getting this one but I was willing to take it home despite the stain. The guys just shook their heads in disbelief. To begin with it didn’t cost much . On top of that, the guy offered a discount because of the stain. Sometimes these simple buys bring joy more than exclusive and expensive sarees. Truly, Dil Toh Pagal Hai 😃
Oh , did I say, this one too is very much made in Vidarbha ?
