Match Day for Adwight

Holi Day! Holy Day ! Holiday !
It was all three of above today ! Still on vacation( holiday) since Wednesday, I woke up as usual before daylight. The full moon of Holi was still higher up on the west when I looked outside. Got ready and asked my dear husband to take a photo on the street. It was a double treat. Dawn skies if I were facing east, full moon if facing west!

Done with the photo shoot there were plenty of things on hand to do. Today was “ Match Day” for my son. Monday he knew he has matched but not the place where he has matched. After 5 days of suspense we would know what program he will go to for his residency. A lot was at stake. If he matched at a university on the east coast or Midwest it would mean we would see him very little for the next 5-6 years.
Hastily made breakfast for everyone and wrapped up the kitchen by 8:55 am and gathered around his laptop. 9:00 am sharp the email with the notification was expected and sure enough as we anxiously followed the count down , the anticipated email arrived in his inbox. He told me to open it. And before my eyes could scroll the text he shouted in joy !! He had matched at the program that was his first choice!! That also meant he would be in Los Angeles, close to home. This is a big day for all young people who complete the hard journey through medical school and await the verdict on their future. When things fall in place like they did today it is very humbling and a validation of all the efforts that poured into it. That’s why I called it a holy day, auspicious day!

We had planned to celebrate the milestone occasion with a lunch and wine tasting at a winery in Paso Robles which is about 110 miles or 2 hours away by car. Soon after the match result was known and initial congratulatory exchanges and phone calls made to close family and friends we were on the road.

The winery location was beautiful. Weather was perfect. Food, wine and service were all excellent. Enjoyed a truly relaxed lunch on the patio facing the vineyards before taking the drive back home.

In the evening just took it easy at home watching some TV shows with the kids. The red cotton paithani served so beautifully from morning till night.
