Mogara Phulalaa
The life of Dnyaneshwar and his siblings was filled with hardships from a tender age. They were orphaned as young kids due to a death sentence pronounced for their parents by orthodox leaders of society. The young kids thereafter went around house to house seeking in alms not just food but also the blessings for self purification and acceptance into society. Dnyaneshwar was second of 4 siblings. The oldest Nivrittinath attained knowledge from a well known lineage of gurus and thereafter became the Guru for Dnyaneshwar.
With the blessings of Nivrittinath, the young Dnyaneshwar embarked on the daunting task of writing an exposition on the ancient and sacred text of the Bhagwad Gita.
Such was his creative genius that for each verse from the Gita he poured in dozens of verses that were filled with poignant examples that were brimming with exquisite emotional expressions.
From a small sapling planted with the blessings of his guru this fragrant vine of jasmine ( his poetic exposition) flourished and grew so tall that it touched the sky.
There seemed to be no end in sight. The more he picked the flowers more buds blossomed. His mind was a big entanglement of ideas, thoughts, emotions. Drawing from the fibers out of this entanglement, with much love and devotion he set to weaving a shawl( his compositions) and reverently offered it to Vitthala, the Lord of Rakhumadevi. Dnyaneshwar has very cleverly dedicated his life’s work to not just Lord Vitthala but also his parents who incidentally were named Vitthalpant and Rukminibai.
When the nightingale of India,Lata Mangeshkar lends her voice to this divine song it transcends senses and takes it to a different realm altogether.
