Idiosyncrasies:Part 1

Idiosyncrasies and Love: Part 1

I don’t watch TV for most part of the year. The only occasions I can be found in front of it is when the kids are home and want to watch a movie or a Netflix show with me, or if one of the Grand Slam ( tennis) matches are being played or sometimes the Oscars show. I watch the Oscars not because I am star struck but simply because it gives a glimpse into some good movies to watch in theaters.

Last Sunday we had been out to Los Angeles to look for an apartment for our son. The drive both ways was through plenty of traffic. Probably a lot more folks are eager to get out after the pandemic and particularly with spring in the air. Earlier in Los Angeles we had seen the crazed fans crowding on the streets in West Hollywood and cops cordoning off streets for the VIP guests to have access to the Oscars ceremony.

Been out early morning we returned around 6 pm.
Once we were home I asked my husband to turn on the TV to watch whatever remained from the awards night. I was really tired and feeling lazy after doing the driving both ways. Indeed so shamelessly lazy that I asked if he could bring my pyjamas to the living room so I don’t have to walk to the bedroom and miss the TV show ! As I folded away my saree he chuckled and asked “ should I make you really happy ?”  I grinned and simply nodded. He had read my mind totally. Now, before your vivid imagination takes you places, just chill!  It’s not what you are thinking .

My routine each day after changing out from the day’s saree is to immediately iron it before putting it away. We exchanged knowing smiles and without a word he brought out the ironing board along with the iron and plugged it in place for me to iron my saree while watching TV.

Small things that are testimony to the love shared with your life partner. It was our 32nd wedding anniversary that day. This gesture from him that day was priceless.
All my idiosyncrasies are known to him by now. He tells the kids, 2 things I’ve learnt in my marriage: never to pick a saree for Madhavi when she asks what should I wear today because invariably she will end up wearing something else and secondly never tell her which parking spot to park the car !! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

A parking spot is preferred at the end of a row so at least on one side there is no threat of another car parking and opening doors, damaging mirrors , causing scratches etc. If a corner spot happens to be under the shade of a tree, even better! Or in covered spaces if it is near the elevator or stairs that’s wonderful! So obsessed I am about getting the perfect spot that I irritate people by driving around ignoring other open spots that are available.

And when it comes to sarees, less said the better πŸ˜‚. I may keep two sarees ironed for the day and last minute will find both unsuitable and go pick a third or fourth one πŸ˜‚. I can never travel light because when going on a trip I can’t make up my mind which sarees to take !! Invariably I end up carrying multiple options!

It is quite a comedy show when taking saree photos too. You are making me look too short in this photo! You didn’t tell me my mangalsutra is hiding behind the saree! My saree is folded in the back. Why didn’t you tell me? Why are you focusing just on me when the sky is so beautiful in the background? Another photographer would have run away by now πŸ˜ƒ

In any case it feels wonderful when your better half can see humor through your idiosyncrasies and love you unconditionally. I feel blessed.

Saree is a weave from Assam in pure toss. It has the Assamese tree motifs.
