A visit to San Diego in October

This post was originally published in a saree group on October 11th.

I know, I know , I’ve been missing in action for several weeks. Just one of those phases where there is nothing to write about and no motivation to take pictures even though there is a saree draped every day.

Started with the passing away of a very dear friend here, then some dear patients who were more friends than clients and a few others who went on hospice in these last few weeks. Since there wasn’t anything happy to write about I decided to just keep it low.

Been doing a few local weekend drives. Last weekend drove to San Diego as it had been a very long time since I met my sister in law. The weekend was mostly spent at home with them. Saturday night we were lucky to find tickets for this stage musical “ Come fall in love” at The Old Globe Theater. It is adapted from Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge. What a fantastic show it was! The script, stage arrangements, choreography, cast, costumes ….simply awesome!!

Thank you for all those who, sensing my absence, checked on me. All well here with the grace of God but the digital hiatus and consequent quietude is therapeutic and much needed. So you may not see much of me for some more time.

I will be in Mumbai and Pune during my upcoming visit to India from late October to late November.

Sharing a pictures from the weekend, in one of my favorite ikats. A cotton Telia Rumal design with intricate motifs. In the comments I will share pictures in some other sarees worn during the San Diego trip. One of them a prized Odisha ikat by master weaver Dayalu Meher. This is called the tree saree that depicts trees in multiple configurations. Such is the fine work of ikat in this saree that it fetched the coveted Sant Kabir Award for the weaver. The saree worn to the Come Fall in Love show was yet another award winning fine ikat this time by Shri Dayalu ji’s wife Smt Swarnalata Meher. It is called the Mahalakshmi saree and has auspicious Mahalakshmi yantra motifs in ikat woven all over the saree. This work was recognized with a National Award. The picture in this saree however was taken at night and the poor lighting does no good to show the extraordinary details on the saree.

Also in the pictures are the Old Globe Theater, sunset and moonrise in San Diego.
