A winter morning at work
This was posted earlier in a saree group.
It is beautiful, though sadly infrequent here, to wake up to the sound of rain. Gives a good feeling even if it is too dark outside to see the drops streaming from the skies or too cold to step out to take in the fragrance of the earth. Just the sound rejuvenates and prepares the mind for the day that lies ahead.
The temperatures early morning here are in the mid 30-40s Fahrenheit these days. It feels cozy to pull out the Bhujodi kala cottons, thick kotpads or the eri silks on such days. This oft repeated earthy Kotpad with Ganga Jamuna borders was staring at me in the closet today. Couldn’t resist her warm calling.
Once at work it is a routine to plug in the floor heater, sanitize the desk, make my favorite Rooibos tea( to which I took an instant liking after the visit to Cape Town almost a decade back) , log in to the computer and attend to all messages, reports and prescription requests that have accumulated since last evening while sipping on the tea with some cookies or whatever may be there to savor it with on that day. Today it was some leftover persimmon coffee cake. By the time I am through with this ritual it is time for the patients to start arriving. In the meantime more staff members are making their entries.
The security officer has own chores to take care of in the mornings. Unlocking the entrance doors, turning on lights and monitors in the whole building and such things . Didn’t want to bother for a picture two days in a row and look like a narcissist maniac obsessed with her looks in the morning. So tried a new trick. The large window in my office served as a mirror while it was still dark outside. Hoping this selfie meets the requirement for a solo picture in the saree though it is intercepted by some wooden framework on the window.( see the picture of the same window after daylight breaks in, in the comments later).
Now a quiz for those who read my last post and today’s post. What was the image in your mind when I mentioned my morning companion and friend, the security officer in my office building? Honest answer please .
