Mumbai Saree Meet #2, 2022
This was first posted in a saree group on November 20th.
The penultimate day of this trip to India was spent running some errands for my family back in the USA and meeting some sareespeak friends who had missed the last get-together in Mumbai.
Lona Dash, Rose John, Yasmin Mistry, Trupti Desai, Anita Mendon, Manasi Hadkar and Seema Padte all made it to the venue in Worli that was efficiently planned just like the last one by my sweet friend Sonali Pradhan. Sonali, I’m truly left without words to fully express how I feel. You do it all with a smile and make it all so smooth. All the ladies dressed in their best sarees made the afternoon lively with their energies. Good food, good location and good company!! When these three come together one loses track of time. That’s exactly what happened on Saturday.
One more day in Bhaarat before I fly to the other side of the globe. It has been a month full of celebration( Diwali), action( lot of travel and work meetings) emotion( time with friends and family but missing my dear father) and devotion(various temple visits). Couldn’t have had it any better. There is always a certain sadness when it is time to leave from here, admixed with a sense of anxiety about the upcoming travel( airport formalities and the long flight experience). Even after all these years these vulnerabilities remain unchanged. But thought of uniting with the kids lifts the spirit.
This will be my last post from India. I don’t know when the next post will be because my precious photographer is staying back in India for another month or longer. It implies much more inconvenience than just no one to take pictures. A lot other responsibilities will fall on my shoulders until he returns. Let’s see how each one of us fares without the other. It is going to be an eye opener.
Saree for the day was a very special ikat by Meera Mehta. This one is in black with some red, white and blue, to delineate the design inspired by Cambodian temples.Although a single ikat( tie dye of weft yarn alone)the finesse is extraordinary and almost gives impression of being a double ikat( tie dye of both warp and weft yarn).
