Things we take for granted

This was first posted in a saree group.

We take so many things for granted in our lives. Especially our family. This morning I woke up alone in the house. Since I got back from India first the daughter was here for Thanksgiving. The day she was going back, my son arrived to spend 3-4 days. Yesterday he had to go back and return to work. Mom will not be back from my sister’s place for another 10 days. Better half seems to be adjusted to his stay in Pune with his sisters and nephew.

It was a bit of an unnerving feeling to wake up and realize there is no one else in the home. Except my breath! Even that is taken for granted !!

Sometimes the deep realizations of who we are, who we think we are, and how erroneous that is, just spring upon us unexpectedly. Hard to put it all into words. Alongside came the awareness that no matter how independent I see myself there are subtle comforts that the self is used to from having a family. Even though at times they may be dispersed around the globe.

And even if we learn to live without those subtle supports we still have that one unwavering companion throughout our life……our breath, our consciousness, the source of our inner joy.

Today’s drape is one of the new ones picked during the recent trip. A turmeric dyed Assam weave with mixed Eri and mulberry silk yarn. The saree is dyed half and half in two tones. See pictures in comments. It is really such a comfortable drape in chilly weather.

I struggled with selfies once I reached work. Seeing my circus the security officer who is my lone companion and friend on the premises in the early hours of morning came to my rescue. See the holiday decorations in our office building in the background. The place will soon turn into a zoo but until then we get to enjoy the silence and quietude.
