World Saree Day 2022

It feels rather ironic that the shortest day of the year( in the Northern Hemisphere) should coincide with the day celebrating one of the longest garments in the world.

Saree it is today, just like every other day of the year. But another irony…. No one to take my picture. And no picturesque locales to pose at. Nevertheless the occasion was certainly cause to celebrate so I pulled out one of my newest acquisitions.  A beautiful handwoven cotton saree from Assam that I chose out of some really tempting lot from a saree stall at the Dastkar Haat Samiti exhibition in Pune. It was a pleasure meeting Sushant of Nomi that day. The body is in a earthy shade of purplish gray and it is flanked by one border in parrot green and other in turquoise blue. The pallu has intricately woven design using both colors of the borders. It is not only a joy to see but equally comfortable to drape all day. A few selfies taken at my workplace is what I have for today.
