Rainy Weekend: Part 2
Saturday on our drive back I saw updates flashing on the freeway. “ Grapevine closed. CHP escorting traffics on state highway 58”. So 58 was open !! We planned to drive to Tehachapi next morning to get breakfast at the cafe and then go see wildflowers.
Both of us sisters are early risers. We were showered and ready and on the road before 6 am while mom and my husband were in their beds on Sunday morning. The tech savvy sister was relying on her traffic app as we proceeded on highway 58. The nicely moving traffic came to an abrupt halt on the outskirts of the city. Big signs flashed that the freeway was closed beyond the next exit! I was able to make a U turn and start driving back. Minal hadn’t given up hope on her app. It directed us now to take the next exit and follow a detour to reach Tehachapi. We drove for about 10-12 miles before reaching a “road closed ahead” sign!! Oh well! No breakfast in Tehachapi and no wildflowers! And no chance of seeing sunrise either!
No problem!
We were in the midst of enchanting groves of almonds and surrounded by a seemingly unending ring of snow capped mountains with gorgeous views of vineyards and farms extending across the plains of the valley. There was a chill in the air. The roads were all just for the two of us. We enjoyed every minute of our drive. Stopped wherever we found a beautiful view and took pictures wherever we fancied. Sometimes on the road, sometimes across a farm or inside an almond grove. Once our hearts were full we returned home, just in time to tune in to the weekly zoom satsang.
Served them all breakfast, then lunch. Even solved some CME( continued medical education) questions with dear sister before dropping her off to the airport. A short and sweet visit but it wouldn’t have been so much fun without her.
This silk jamdani never fails to impress with its beauty no matter where she goes. Today she met her match in the surroundings.
