Wild Horses
A desire that burns to ashes
Everything you earned in a lifetime
Turning fame to shame
Friends into foes
Cutting relationships to pieces
And burning all bridges.
The fuddled mind
How would it know
What is wrong or what is right?
Your path of duty gone out of sight
A hole from where
You could never rise.
Nor sleep in peace
Or see your soul
Why let such desire through the door?
The promise of happiness
This desire makes
Alas
Is nothing but
A mirage at best
Untamed horses in an endless desert
Such are the beasts, these wild thoughts
Let them pass while you stand away
Or soon they’ll be leading you astray.
Your fall will come faster than ascent
And the bones may never have a chance to mend.
Wake up
Shake off the dirt stuck deep
Why choose hell
When Earth and Heaven
Are yours to keep?
Written for a dear friend who I hope will read, realize and have the courage to change course.
