Discussion:
In the course of cheering up her dejected brother the young poetess laid down the qualities of a saint.
Until this point she was using an argument leaning upon self control and tolerance. These are essential preparatory steps for a spiritual seeker whose ultimate goal is to realize the Universal Being or Parabramha! An athlete in a high jump event vigorously sprints towards the point of the jump, then pivots to take a big leap in the sky. In a similar fashion she delineates a seeker’s preparatory run before leaping into the high realm of Brahma Vidya!
The whole universe is a cloth, of which, the yarn or individual thread is Para Brahma !! The fiber that makes the fabric of the entire universe is Bramha!!
The good, bad and evil. Everything is made out of the same reality that underlies all existence. Sat-Chit-Ananda.
It is not easy to assimilate this knowledge of Brahman or all pervading conscious reality for an ordinary person. It requires gradual elimination of gross body identification. Fulfilling desires for gratification of the body is a never ending indulgence. It is difficult to abandon until one acquires sufficient wisdom and motivation to do this. It has a tendency to keep pulling the person back into old habits. Controlling anger, increasing tolerance for low behavior are practical means to rise above the body identity. Once sufficient practice brings sustained detachment from the gross physical world only then can the person rise to intuitive awareness and the all pervading nature of divine consciousness.
The philosophy contained in this single line from Muktabai is vastly elaborated later by Dnyaaneshwar Mauli himself in his book Amrutanubhav. Pure consciousness serves as the substratum for the entire universe. All objects of various size and form acquire the virtue of existence from conscious awareness. No consciousness, no perception, no object, no universe. It is this single entity that is the basic principle that underlies everything.
The ignorant are not aware of the divinity in themselves. But the man of knowledge can’t turn a blind eye to the presence of divinity in the ignorant.
Others may be ignorant but you know better, Muktabai is telling Dnyaaneshwar Mauli. You are a yogi of pure heart. You surely know this truth.
If everything is the Supreme Reality( Bramha) then who’s there to turn your back on? Who’s there to frown upon? What’s there to feel bad about? What’s more left to know ?
Let this knowledge shine in you and make you open the door of your mind so you can share this knowledge with people outside.
Quality:
Understanding all creation to be God
Forgiving the ignorant
Enlightening the ignorant
