World Lion Day 2024

World Lion Day 2024

This is the 11th year August 10th is observed as such to “ bring attention to the declining lion population and to promote actions that can help in their conservation. ”

Today the estimated global population of lions is 20,000 and in India about 675.

The top reasons for declining lion populations are loss of habitat, poaching, human-wildlife conflicts and climate change.

Life is not easy for lions or for wildlife in general. Lending a hand to preserve our planet’s cohabitants is a moral obligation as well as necessity to protect the ecosystem.

Let our future generations be able to enjoy the company of these majestic creatures. Do whatever little you can to help the cause.

Abhay and I had the privilege to watch the lions in Kenya and Tanzania at close range. Sometimes sleeping under a bush or on top of rocks, sometimes exhausted after mating, sometimes camouflaged in grass waiting for the right moment to make the move towards a potential prey and sometimes enjoying family time with little ones. Lazy or working, adult or cubs, these are simply beautiful creatures. Sharing some pictures from personal adventures that tell their story.
