Freedom : Part 2
Freedom: Part 2
As you may have gathered, the theme of the earlier post on Freedom was the work that happens in the inner laboratory. Just as I was about to wrap up the thoughts on that topic I came across this photo of Oprah Winfrey with that quote. It seemed to resonate indirectly with the current theme in discussion.
The direction of this quote is outwards, analyzing and understanding another person’s behavior towards you. I thought to myself, like turning the camera on the phone to selfie mode, what if you look inside your own mind and then consider the quote ? It was a moment of a new realization.
The mischief of one’s own mind is responsible ,more often than not, for creating rifts between ourselves and others. Misconstruing what someone said or did not say, expecting specific behavior or treatment from others, taking offense to their actions, feeling ignored by others, considering someone petty or vain, feeling inferior or superior to others. All these are our own mental creations. The other person has no control over our reactions. And often may not be aware of what went on in our mind.
Until we act it out!!
It may be worth assessing our prejudices from time to time, finding the wrongful thinking patterns that have masterminded these prejudices and then subjecting them to a thorough cleansing. It may bring the freshness one feels after a spa treatment or even a good car wash!! It may free two people: you and the person you were prejudiced against!!
