Beware: Bigotry Can Be Contagious

Trust In God But Lock Your Car:

What lies between the two parts of this sentence?

Humanity!

God isn’t divided. God doesnt have parts. God doesn’t have sides.

But Humanity has two sides. One that knows to love and one that knows to hate.
Unless one is able to recognize both sides it is impossible to navigate through the world wisely.

If you only adhere to the God fearing side and remain in denial about human fallacies, you will be good, stupid and vulnerable.

If you choose to only see the fallacies in people, you will be street smart but close the doors of your own heart to seeing goodness ,without realizing it. There can’t be greater damage to yourself than to live a life devoid of empathy and forgiveness.

I came across a post today which was dripping in sarcasm over the fact that a large number of soldiers were being deployed on occasion of the start of the Amarnath Yatra in Northern India. The taunt was towards those who believe Hindus and Muslims are brothers!

It is true, from both scientific and spiritual perspectives , that all men have descended from a single ancestral source, making them brothers.

The expectation from brothers is that they love each other.

Should it happen? Yes.

Does that always happen? No.

What is not asked is: Does it always fail to happen?
The answer is no.

Those who only buy into the fact that one religion is a trouble maker for another have already closed the door to the possibility of any love between the two.

But that’s not true. There are people who look beyond religion and see everyone as brothers.

When God says extend love to everyone ,God has not asked you to be stupid and look at everyone blindly. You are required to be alert and aware all the time to recognize who is a bigot and who is not. It doesn’t help to lump everyone into one category. Personal laziness to exercise alertness for recognizing each person for what he/she is has to be owned up for exactly what it is!  It is this laziness that leads to bigotry and radicalism. It is no surprise that such minds don’t spare time or effort to understand what wise ones have to say. They do not understand the phrase “ keep an open mind “. Their intelligence allows for processing only half the picture. They don’t realize that their philosophy adopts and propagates hatred, the very traits that made them despise the other side in the first place.

You need to protect yourself from the theives but keep your mind open to know that not everyone is a thief. Theives do not present in a single stereotypical image. Neither do saints. It takes inner wisdom to recognize both.

To understand the brand of God’s love one has to stand outside of all circles and see the full picture. Only then can you understand the full purport of the statement:
Trust in God But Lock Your Car!
There is no cynicism involved in this statement if you understand it correctly. Both halves of the statement are equally important to be a complete human.

Be good to all but recognize each one for what they are individually at any given time. Not for what your mind associates them with.
