The Disconnect: Part 2

 The Disconnect!

Part 2:

My mom’s innocent assertion about what is real and what is simply a book “theory” ( implied as fiction) revealed how even believers in a God look at spiritual theories. They do not see its relevance and application in their daily lives.

Most of their behaviors are conditioned behaviors such as living honest lives, being kind to others, non stealing, not being greedy etc. Something that they were taught at home to practice. Never questioned or thought over deeply.
The same applies to anti social behaviors. They are conditioned behaviors that have no insights. No ability for reasoning.

If investigated however one discovers some remarkable phenomena. The pure consciousness is described by the spiritual texts as “complete”. As you “experience” it through meditative and contemplative processes, you discover that all the desirable and essential virtues and traits such as love, peace, humility, compassion, generosity, forgiveness, fearlessness, conviction, industriousness, contentment, justice, immortality, beauty, intelligence these are the very fiber of that consciousness.

Human mind goes around in circles searching for love, searching for security, fearful of mortality, seeking peace in the world. This is because of the impurity in the waking consciousness. The more the impurity, the farther the mind is from peace, love, contentment, humility, kindness etc. The more desperate it gets fighting the world, searching for that unknown happiness which many times it can’t even understand fully what it is that’s lacking.

The few people that live life with much purity of thought enjoy a fairly good life with reasonable peace, contentment, love and happiness. But they can’t escape the suffering that comes from bodily illness and pain that comes from losing loved ones to death. And also from loss of wealth and other valuable things like job or home. They cannot escape the doubting mind, insecurities for loved ones, and about their own health etc. They must endure scrutiny from others, feelings of guilt, remorse, hurt from ownership over their own actions or hurtful behavior of others. Thus the impurities in consciousness prove prickly in many ways.

It is the total conscious state of Turiya that reveals that everything that takes place in the waking state is only a make believe act. The temporary objects and situations are illusory. You don’t have to fear losing anything. Not even your own life. Your life and the life of all beings seen in the waking state are one and the same entity. Compassion is inbuilt in the consciousness. So you don’t go about irrationally hurting other beings. You protect them to the best you can. Yet if and when they die, you know nothing dies. Everything just appears and disappears. The awareness of this reality of everything sets you free.

But as long as you are not willing to let go the insistence on the reality of your waking state and the current understanding, you can never elevate your understanding from the Turiya level. Just like you don’t realize you were dreaming until you wake up.

The awakened seer can simply watch the world if he chooses or his compassion may compel him to come to the rescue of those suffering because of the unawareness of their completeness. The truth is that the completeness is already packaged within every being. They just have to free themselves from the ignorance to see it and enjoy it.

The saints call it Vivek. Discernment. What part is real and what is unreal. The awareness is real. It is still. Its illusory movement creates manifestation and that is the temporary or unreal part. Once you know the real part, you learn to play along with the unreal part. Everyone and everything around you is you and you are them. Just playing  joyful game.

When you find the mind slipping into thinking of “ me and the other” bring it back and remind yourself of what is real. The unreal will slip away. Mind will return to stillness.

As long as the mind steps “down” into the waking “ reality” the world exists there with all its good and bad things. With all its pleasures and pains. All its problems and worries.

Mom’s question: is it true that Dasharath could go to heaven and fight a war on the side of the Gods? Yes anything is possible in the universe that stands on a platform of illusion. A space where pure beings live is heaven and place where evil minded beings live is hell. Earth is not just the physical planet. Earth is the middle ground where beings with some purity and some impurity dwell. So while in the same mortal body one may migrate from heaven to hell depending on your deeds and time.

When you elevate above the waking consciousness neither heaven, earth or hell exists. Neither you nor others exist. But it is a state of completeness in itself. Cannot be described.

All one can say: It is.

That “is-ness” pervades through the waking state, dream state and deep sleep state. Because that is the only eternal state. Everything else is limited by time and space. They come and go.

Find that is-ness and you’ll find everything you’ve been looking for and everything you need.
