Seasons

This morning I was up by 4 am to get ready for work in Tehachapi. As I was making tea on the side, tried putting away dried dishes to their places and packing my meals for the two days I would be away. Having done drinking tea when I entered the bedroom I saw through the glass that dawn was breaking out. It was barely 5 am. That’s when it occurred “ oh it’s that time of the year ! The day is beginning to get an earlier start!”

I remembered my dear father. I had heard him use phrases like “ I have seen a few monsoons more than you”, or “ the hair on the top of my head did not turn gray in the sun”. The reference was to year of experience.

To have seen so many monsoons means to have witnessed so many cycles of seasons in a lifetime. Ironically, today I realized, how being distracted, by the million things that life puts in front of you to take care of, sometimes makes you lose track of this very cycle of seasons. They come and they go and you don’t take notice. You lose out on the wonder. The magic that unfolds without a magicians name on it. Your special front row seat to the spectacular show keeps waiting for you. You don’t hear the bell ring, the curtains go up, nor realize that they went down while you were busy putting out fires somewhere else.

Today the early breaking of dawn caught me by pleasant surprise. It opened an inner window to the outside within a moment and in a single sweep cleaned out cobwebs around the window.

Hoping no matter how demanding life gets, I will not leave my front row seat to this timeless show. Just witnessing the glory of every season makes you lose count of how many such spectacular moments you’ve been privy to.
